How to electronically file the federal and state tax returns

This article provides instructions on how to send both the federal and state tax returns with a single transmission in the program.

  1. Add and complete Form 8879.
  2. From within a return, click the Transmit button.
    Note: The program verifies the federal and state return for errors before transmission. Review any errors in the return. If there are no errors, the Transmission dialog appears.
  3. The program automatically selects the federal and state return for transmission if the electronic filing information is completed in each return. Click Send. The program takes you to the WIP.
  4. Click Transmit on the toolbar.
  5. On the Transmit to Central Site dialog, click Transmit.
The program sends the federal and state tax return to the Central Site.
