How do I setup TextLink to Email returns?
SUMMARY
This article demonstrates how to setup TextLink to email a return from the tax software in 3 parts
Part 1
To turn on 2-Step Verification (Required), follow these steps:
- Login to your Google or Gmail account
- Click on the initials or profile picture in the upper right corner.
- Click Manage your Google Account
- Go to the Security tab on the left in the tree
- Scroll down to Signing in to Google
- Click 2-Step Verification then Get Started
- Enter your Google password and click Next
- Ensure your device shows on the list, then click Continue and verify that Google has the correct phone number for you as a backup.
- Hit Send to send a code to your device. Once you receive the code, enter it and click Next
- Confirm that the information is correct and click Turn On
Part 2
Now that 2-Step Verification is on we need to create an App Password
To create an App Password, follow these steps:
- Under the Signing in to Google box, click App Passwords
- Re-enter your Google account password and click Next
- On the Select app dropdown, choose Other (Custom name) and enter TextLink
- Next, click Generate
- This is the password you will use with your Gmail username in the TextMsg/Email tab of the tax software
NOTE: Once the window shows your Generated app password please be sure to PRINT this page or make a note of this password as it will not be accessible again.
Part 3
To setup the e-mail option in the software, follow these steps:
- Open the tax software
- Go to Setup then Office Setup menu, click TextMsg/Email tab
- Enter the Gmail address in Email and the App Password the was generated by Google in Password. (See Part 1 and 2 above)
- Click OK.
