Error Message: “Unable to download XXXXXX.pdf from localhost.” when a PDF document is opened

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to view a PDF document in the program, the following error message appears:

CAUSE

This error message can occur if the Display PDF in browser option is not selected in the version of Adobe Reader installed on the machine.

RESOLUTION

Open Adobe Reader and select the Display PDF in browser option by following these steps:

Open Adobe Reader.
From the top menu, select Edit->Preferences.
Under Categories select Internet.
Select the Display PDF in browser option.
Click OK to save the change.

Adobe Reader should now be configured to open PDF documents properly.
